This is one of my favourite and most used lenses. Not only do I use it for sweeping landscapes, but the perspective it provides is excellent for lots of different applications. I love to use it when there's a lot fit in and I just don't have the necessary working space to use longer focal lengths. It's also great for bringing a different perspective to whatever I'm taking photographs of.

The build quality is solid and autofocussing is fast thanks to USM. There's no image stabilisation built in, but I've never felt it a necessary feature at the sorts of focal lengths covered by this lens.

Due to the wide focal length, you need to be aware of any vignetting caused by using filters. This isn't always noticeable in the viewfinder so it's important to review any shots using screw filters.

I take this lens with me whenever I go on a shoot. An essential lens for any owner of a Canon cropped sensor body.
