One of Nikon's less lauded lenses, but still a star performer in its own right. The lens covers a wide and very useful focal length range making it suitable for everything from portraiture to wildlife and sports photography. It's quick to achieve focus in good light, but can hunt a little in low light.

The relatively small maximum aperture varies depending on focal length and won't give you the quality of background blurring as the more expensive 70-200 f/2.8 lenses, but the addition of VR makes it a hand-holdable lens and its light weight even more so.

The zooming action can feel a little stiff, but nonetheless this is a great lens with all things considered.
