I like almost everything about this lens except for three things:

The weight
The colour
The cost

I bought it along with a Canon 5d and I'm really pleased with the results it's my main lens for gig photography and portraits. Along with my 24-70 2.8 I'm pretty much covered for most eventualities. It's size and weight can be a drag if you want to travel lightly. I also wish it was black - as it's shout paparazzi as soon as anyone see it.

Cost wise it's very expensive at the moment due to the exchange rate.

This lens costs a lot and it weighs a lot, but offers a lot in return.

Originally, I was the owner of this lens' younger sibling; the EF 70-200 f/4 IS, but decided to trade up when I wanted more background blur and more light into the lens than it could give.

So, whereas I rarely used the f/4 version of the lens, the f/2.8 has been already seen a lot of action in a short space of time.

Yes, it does cost a lot and, yes, it does get heavy to hold after a long shoot, but the results are worth it. The IS works well to steady a large amount of camera shake (which can be something of its own doing being so heavy) and the optics deliver a performance that sits amongst the best of Canon's L range.

Get a loan, get a monopod and get this lens!
