For the money, this is a terrific all-purpose lens that's great for travel and street photography as a large number of situations can be covered with just this one lens.

This lens delivers excellent image quality and is physically well constructed with smooth action zoom and manual focus rings.

Its relatively slow maximum aperture is perhaps its greatest weakness, but it's part-way offset by the built-in 3-stop image stabilisation which helps to reduce blurring caused by camera shake. It doesn't have any effect on blurring caused by subject movement, though.

For the photographer who doesn't have the budget or simply doesn't want to spend the extra money on the L-series lenses, this is a great alternative offering from Canon which has proved itself in the image stakes.
